Dillon girls deny Maroons

DILLON — A slow start by the Butte Central girls’ basketball team was too much to overtime Thursday night.

The Maroons scored just nine points in the first half, and first-place Dillon turned back BC 45-25 in a Southwestern A game at the B.W. Lodge Gymnasium.

Ainsley Shipman scored 14 points to pace the Beavers, who improved to 9-1 overall and 6-0 in conference play. Evey Hansen came off the bench to score 10 points for Dillon, which broke open a 17-9 halftime lead with a 15-6 third quarter.

The Beavers also got seven points from Halle Fitzgerald, three from Jordyn Walker, two from Zoe Morast and Lauryn Peterson, and one from Ariel Thomas.

Brooke Badovinac scored 12 of her game-high 16 points in the fourth quarter. Ella Moodry scored four from the Maroons. Kathryn Lalicker and Sofee Thatcher each scored two, and Mollie Drew tossed in one.

Brenna Foley, Payton Hartwick and Maycee Anderson also contributed for the Maroons, who fell to 5-4 and 4-2.

The Maroons will play host to Hamilton Saturday at the Maroon Activities Center. That game will be part of a boys-girls doubleheader.
