Dillon downs Frenchtown in boys’ third-place game

HAMILTON — The Dillon Beavers captured third place at the Southwestern A District tournament Saturday.

The two-time defending Class A state champions knocked off Frenchtown 43-41 in the third-place game on the Dale Berry Court.

That followed 60-54 victory over Stevensville in a morning loser-out game at Hamilton Middle School. Frenchtown beat Corvallis 46-41 in the other morning game.

Dillon and Frenchtown advance to next week’s Western A Divisional tournament in Butte along with Hamilton and Butte Central.

Justice Peterson came off the bench to score 18 points to lead the way as the Beavers captured third place.

Dillon took a 29-16 halftime lead and held on for the slim victory.

Coby King scored nine points in the victory. Clay Allison tossed in five, Dylan Cervelli netted four, Braden Anderson, Brad Rakich and Tyler Walker each scored two, and Jace Fitzgerald scored one.

Ethan Pyron and Zach Baker each tossed in nine points to lead Frenchtown. Jared Cole scored seven.

Coby King went 8 for 8 from the foul line and scored 18 points to lead three Beavers in double figures as Dillon punched its ticket to divisionals.

Brad Rakich added 12 points, and Justice Peterson scored 10 for the Beavers, whose 16-8 run in the third quarter proved to be the difference.

Dillon also got eight points from clay Allison, four from Tyler Walker and Jake Ferris, and two apiece from Braden Anderson and Jace Fitzgerald.

Dalton Bragg scored 18 points to lead the Yellowjackets, who close the season at 2-18. Logan Roth scored 17.

Frenchtown 46, Corvallis 41
Zach Baker came off the bench to score 22 points to lead Frenchtown to the season-extending win.

He scored 17 of those points in the fourth quarter.

The Broncs hit four 3-pointers while outscoring Corvallis 18-4 in the second quarter. That followed a 15-5 Blue Devil run in the first quarter.

Ryal Jessop hit six 3-pointers and scored 24 points to lead Corvallis, which closed the season at 5-15.
