Dillon boys work overtime to down Bulldogs

DILLON — Blame this one on the Coles.

Cole Johnston hit a long 3-pointer to send the game to overtime before Cole Truman buried a trey to give Dillon control in the extra stanza Tuesday night. The result was a 78-75 Dillon win over Butte High in a non-conference game at the B.W. Lodge Gymnasium.

The loss put a damper on the season opener for Class AA Butte High, which looked primed to take the win from the Class A Beavers.

Then Johnston sank a 3-pointer from 27 feet to tie the game late in the fourth quarter. Truman’s three put Dillon up four points. Jace Fitzgerald sank four straight free throws to seal the win.

In all, the Beavers hit on 11 shots from 3-point range. Braden Anderson hit five 3-pointers and scored 19 points to lead four Beavers in double figures scoring.

Johnston scored 18 points, while Truman finished with 16 and Justus Peterson poured in 14. Dillon also got seven points from Fitzgerald and two apiece from Daxon Graham and Jade Mordst.

Junior Jake Olson scored a career-high 25 points, 18 of which came in the first half, to lead the Bulldogs. He was one of four Butte High players to reach double digits.

Blake Drakos sank three 3-pointer and scored 19 points. Billy Kelly tossed in 11 points before fouling out, while Cael Stenson netted 10.

Butte High also got six points from Kenley Leary and four from Ryan Burt.
