SIOUX CITY, Iowa — Montana Tech didn’t start the NAIA national volleyball tournament the way it wanted this morning.
The Orediggers dropped the first set 25-18 to Madonna (Michigan) at the Tyson Events Center.
Tech, though, bounced back in a big way, winning the next three sets 26-24, 25-23, 25-15 to win their first match of pool play. (Stats)
Angela Molesworth had a huge match to lead the Orediggers to the win. The Oredigger senior hit .441 and pounded 17 kills to lead the Orediggers. Nicole Peacock and Masha Korol each added 10 kills in the win, which lifted Tech to 23-8 on the season Madonna fell to 29-5.
Hannah Liss (24) and Tori Chelini (13) combined to dish up 42 assists for the Orediggers. Libero Sabrina Hopcroft registered a match-high 21 digs. Peacock collected 21 digs, while Gena McMillan contributed with nine kills and 17 digs.
Peacock also joined Liss with three aces. Hopcroft and Chelini each served two.
Nicole Oestrike’s 17 kills paced the Crusaders.
The Orediggers play Embry-Riddle (Arizona) at 11 a.m. Wednesday. They close pool play at 11 a.m. Thursday against defending national champion Hastings (Nebraska).
The top two teams from the four-team pool head to tournament play beginning Friday.
