Diggers overcome 0-2 hole, down Saints in Helena

HELENA — The Montana Tech volleyball team extended its winning streak to seven games in dramatic fashion Thursday night.

The No. 23 Orediggers dropped the first two games 25-23 and 25-18 to No. 17 Carroll College at the P.E. Center. Tech, though, battled back to win 25-15 and 25-21 to force a tiebreaker. Then, the Orediggers knocked off their archrivals 15-12 for the improbable win. (Stats)

Jordan Danz tallied 16 kills and 17 digs to lead the Orediggers, who improved to 16-7 overall and 4-3 in Frontier Conference play. Katie Wiley added 13 kills and Nicole Peacock, who registered 13 digs, killed 10 in a match that saw the teams tie at 57 in the battle of kills.

Makenzie Bauck dished up 48 assists, and Sabrina Hopcroft led Tech with 19 digs. The Orediggers also got nine kills from Bailie Cortner and 11 digs from Angie Pancost.

Paige Montgomery’s 14 kills led the Saints, who fell to 17-5 and 5-2. Holly Morehouse added 13 kills, and Ayla Carpenter killed 10. Jonni Dorr dished up 45 assists, and Natalie Kassa collected 35 digs.

Montana Tech will play host to Lewis-Clark State Saturday. That 2 p.m. match begins an Oredigger tripleheader. The Tech women’s and men’s basketball teams will play the Yellowstone Christian College at 4 and 6.
