PHOENIX — Montana Tech’s golf teams saw some solid individual performances Monday, but the Orediggers still find themselves looking up at the competition at the ACU Spring Invitational.
The tournament, hosted by Arizona Christian at the par 72 Moon Valley Country Club, has some serious competition for the Orediggers. (Men’s results; women’s results)
Montana Tech’s men shot a 305 on the opening round, and that ties the Orediggers with the C squad from Ottawa University (Arizona) for seventh place in the eight-team tournament.
The Oredigger women hit 339, putting them in third place out of three teams with team scores heading into Tuesday’s final round.
Embry-Riddle (Arizona) leads the men’s team standings at 281. That is 7 under par as a team. Arizona Christian is second at 288, followed by Ottawa University B at 289.
Matthew Braley of Grand Canyon shot a 5-under 67 to take the individual lead. Frankie Lin of Arizona Christian and Tyler Macpherson of Embry-Riddle are one shot back at 68.
Jace Rhodes led the Orediggers with a 74. That puts him in 25th place. Brady Cady hit a 76 for the Orediggers. Isaiah Weldon shot a 77, Trey Hoagland hit 78 and Sean Ramsbacher carded an 84.
Embry-Riddle hit 291 to take a huge lead on the women’s side. Ottawa University is distant second at 334.
Tech’s Emily Garden and Tanna Campbell are tied for seventh place at 79. Kendall McBean of Embry-Riddle leads the way at 69. She is followed by teammates Hailey Stevenson at 70 and Maisy Alsen and Cami Culp at 76.
Emily Kelly added 81 for the Orediggers. That ties her at 10th place.
