KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released the eighth poll NAIA Coaches Top 25 today. Montana Tech moved up in the poll to No. 20.
The Orediggers (6-2) were ranked No. 23 going into last Saturday’s game against than-No. 24 Rocky Mountain. Tech defeated Rocky 20-17 in grudge match fashion. The Orediggers came from behind tying the game in the fourth quarter before going ahead with a field goal.
Tech is making up ground in the polls but the final weeks of the Coaches’ Top 25 move slowly as the season winds down. There was only one loss in the top 10 teams by Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) who dropped from No. 3 to No. 8 after being handed their first loss of the season. There was little movement above Tech as no team fell out of the Top 20.
Three teams in the top 20 are undefeated. Four teams, including Montana Tech, have two losses in the top 20. No. 14 Keiser (Fla.) is the top ranked school out of The Sun Conference and is the only team with more than two losses in the top 20 at 6-3. All of their losses are nonconference.
College of Idaho stayed at No. 12 as the top ranked Frontier Conference school.
Rocky Mountain fell out of the top 25 and is now receiving votes.
The Orediggers host Montana Western Saturday for the final home game of the year and Senior Day. The final regular season game for Tech is the following weekend at Montana State Northern.
