BUTTE, Mont. – The Montana Tech men’s basketball team got ahead early and didn’t look back cruising to an 87-61 victory over Northern New Mexico.
The Orediggers (4-0) shot 50-percent from the field in the first half and hit 7 of 12 from three point.
Hayden Diekhans had 14 points in the first half and finished with 19 in the game. Diekhans went 8 for 9 from the field while grabbing eight rebounds with a game-high five assists.
The Orediggers shot 50-percent from the field in the game and 47.8-percent from three.
Asa Williams had 14 points in the second half finishing with 17 for the game. Williams went 3 for 8 from beyond the arc.
Michael Ure had 13 points going 2 for 5 from long. Ure added four rebounds and four assists to his totals.
Camdyn LaRance had nine points off the bench.
Eloy Medina led Northern New Mexico with 14 points hitting 4 of 8 from three.
Emmanuel Taban went 6 for 11 finishing with 13 points.
Montana Tech is on the court again tomorrow when they host Southern Oregon at 7 p.m.
Diggers VS Raiders:
BUTTE,Mont.- The Orediggers wrap up the Montana Tech Tip-Off Classic with a 78-61 win over Southern Oregon University.
Montana Tech (4-0) rode their defense to another impressive win at home, holding the Raiders to 25 first-half points. That powerful defense led to significant offensive pressure on the other end, as the Diggs were able to put up 45 points in the first frame. Asa Williams and Ifeanyi Okeke both put up 10 in the first half, and Hayden Deikhans put up seven in the first 20 minutes.
Southern Oregon was able to get going a bit more in the second half but were never able to get enough momentum to reel in Montana Tech.
Williams and Okeke both added four more points each in the second to finish with a game-high 14 points. Cam Larance had a great night for Montana Tech finishing with 13 points, and several great defensive plays.
Nine different Orediggers got in the scoring column in the win.
Southern (1-4) was led by Bryce Dyer and Mason Whittaker with nine points each.
Montana Tech is back at home next weekend when they host the Fall Classic on Friday and Saturday. On Friday they will have a highly anticipated rematch with Dickinson State at 6pm. They will then battle Lewis Clark State at 3pm on Saturday afternoon.
