Diggers close tourney with two victories

BELLEVUE, Neb. — Montana Tech’s volleyball team won a pair of matches Saturday to close the Gosarpy.com Labor Day Classic with a 3-1 record.

The Orediggers beat Oklahoma City University and SAGU, winning both matches in four sets.

Tech opened the day with a 25-22 25-15, 24-26, 25-12 win over Oklahoma City College. (Stats)

Maureen Jessop spiked 15 kills to lead three Orediggers in double figures in that category. Karina Mickelson added 13, and Taylor Henley killed 11.

McKenna Kaelber registered 46 assists, while Mickelson (13 digs) and Sarah Hopcroft (12) led the back court. Emma Carvo served four of Tech’s 12 aces in the victory.

The Orediggers concluded the tournament by beating SGAU 21-25, 25-13, 25-15, 25-6. (Stats)

Jessop tallied 13 kills, and Mickelson spiked 12 to lead the attack. Kaelber handed out 31 assists, and Hopcroft collected 16 digs and served five aces.

The Orediggers are back in action Sept. 17-18 in a Frontier Conference non-conference tournament in Havre.
