The campus at Montana Tech is looking a lot greener this week.
The ground work is complete on the new turf at Alumni Coliseum. Workers from Shaw Sports Turf have started installing the artificial field on Monday.
According to Shaw Sports, the field will come in 42 separate rolls, weighing a total of 55,000 pounds. The infill is comprised of 137,600 pounds of sand and 316,000 pounds of rubber. Installation will require 7,000 feet of seaming tape, 58 one pound spools of thread, and 207 pails of adhesive.
Tech officials say the project will likely be completed by the middle of next month.
The Orediggers will play their first game on the field Sept. 21 against Montana Western. The first game played on the new turf will be Aug. 30 when Butte Central opens the season against Belgrade.
