CORVALLIS — Corvallis came from behind to knock off Butte Central 4-2 Saturday in a Southwestern A softball game.

The game was the second of two scheduled games in the Bitterroot Valley for the Maroons. However, a game with Hamilton in the morning was postponed because of wet weather.

Central struck first against the Blue Devils, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. The Blue Devils tied with two in the bottom of the third, and Corvallis added one in the fourth and one more in the fifth.

Macee Greenwood fanned 11 batters in the pitcher’s circle. The Corvallis leadoff hitter also doubled in a run to start the Blue Devil offense the second time through the order.

Sofee Thatcher struck out six batters, walked one and hit a batter for the Maroons in the hard-luck loss.

Things looked great for the Maroons early. Hattie Mehring led off the game with a double. She scored on a one-out single by Brooke Badovinac.

Badovinac came home on double by Jaeden Berger to make it 2-0.

After jump starting the Blue Devil offense with the double to knock in Sophie Cooper who singled, in the third, Greenwood scored on a grounder by Trinity McLean.

A hit batter proved to be the winning run for Corvallis. Jessica Saturday took one for the team and then scored on a triple by Makaia McEwen.

Corvallis added an insurance run in the fifth when Kaitlin McCartney singled and scored on a McLane single.

Badovinac went 3 for 4 on the day to lead BC. Mia Keeley hit two singles, while Thatcher hit one. Renee Creekmore, Maggie Stimatz and Cloe Stillwagon worked walks for BC. Brenna Foley made a couple of catches at second base.

Central is back in action Wednesday when the Maroons head to Dillon for a makeup game. BC will host the Combo Invitational Friday and Saturday at Stodden Park.

Saturday’s rained-out game in Hamilton will be made up at the tournament.
