Dawgs upset Diggers

DILLON — For the second time in five days, the Montana Western men’s basketball pulled off a Frontier Conference upset at the Straugh Gymnasium.

This time it was the Montana Tech Orediggers who fell victim to the suddenly surging Bulldogs.

Cedric Boone poured in 20 points to lead the way as the Bulldogs knocked off the Orediggers 70-65. (Stats)

The win was the second straight following a 10-game losing streak for the Bulldogs, who beat Rocky Mountain College 80-79 Saturday in Dillon.

Western led 41-29 at halftime, and western led by as many as 18 points. Tech battled back to take the lead, but the Bulldogs took it back.

Kooper Kidgell added 12 points for Western, while Tanner Haverfield scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Western also got seven points from Derrek Durocher and six apiece from Troy Scott and Collin Achenbach.

The Bulldogs improved to 3-12 in conference and 9-17 on the season.

Taylor England and Troy Owens Jr. each scored 14 points to lead the Orediggers, who fell to 5-10 and 15-12. England also grabbed 12 rebounds, and Owens dished four assists.

Nate Ward scored 13 points for the Orediggers. Dylan Pannabecker scored 11.

Western looks to make it three straight when Lewis-Clark State heads to the Straugh Gymnasium Friday night. The Warriors play Tech in Butte on Saturday.
