WHITEFISH — Students-athletes from Montana Western were selected Frontier Conference Football Players of the Week, the league announced today.
Dylan Pope was named Defensive Player of the Week. Nate Simkins claimed Offensive Player of the Week, and Joseph Leman was named Special Teams Player of the Week.
The honors come after No. 24 Western beat Rocky Mountain College 40-10 in Dillon.
Pope is a 5-foot-9, 160-pound freshman defensive back from Sugar City, Idaho. He recorded six solo tackles, two assisted tackles, a half a tackle for a loss, three pass break ups and two interceptions.
Carter Myers of Montana Tech was also nominated along with Sage DeLong of Eastern Oregon, Brian FauntLeRoy of Carroll College and Tucker Maxwell of Rocky Mountain.
Simkins is a 5-10, 160-pound junior wide receiver from Dillon. Simkins caught nine passes for 124 yards and three touchdowns in the win. It’s Simkins’ second straight game with three touchdown receptions
Tyler Folkes of Montana Tech, Hunter Juarez of College of Idaho, Cade Reed of Eastern Oregon and Shane Sipes of Carroll College were also nominated.
Lema is a 5-7, 160-pound freshman kicker/punter from Atwater, California. He averaged 48.6 yards per punt and was 2 for 2 PAT’s. He leads the conference and is seventh in the nation in yards per punt.
Cody Gagnon of Montana Tech was also nominated.
