The Frontier Conference Saturday saw a blowout and a milestone.
Montana Western, and Southern Oregon grabbed league victories, while Carroll College and Rocky Mountain College each won a non-conference tilt.
The Saints’ win made it a very special day for coach Mike Van Diest.
Montana Western 55, MSU-Northern 3
DILLON — Seven different Bulldogs found the end zone as Western rolled under the lights in its home opener. (Stats)
The 2-0 Bulldogs led 31-3 at halftime.
Jon Jund threw for 286 yard and two scores to lead the Bulldogs. Lund, who also ran for a score, found Walker McKitrick and Jamison Hermanson for touchdowns.
Nolan Donishtrope ran for two touchdowns, while Kylar Prante and Blake Seentman joined Jude with on TD on the ground.
Jason Ferris, who registered a team-best 13 tackles, picked off a pass and returned it 27 yards. Joe Caicedo recorded 11 tackles, while Jackson Thompson, who intercepted a pass, joined Riley Martello with 10 tackles.
Carroll College 21, Linfield College 14
HELENA — Joe Farris caught a 65-yard pass from Kolby Killoy with 1 minute, 29 seconds left to lead the Saints to the victory at Nelson Stadium. (Stats)
The win was No. 200 in the illustrious career of Van Diest.
Major Ali scored on runs of 88 and 15 yards for the Saints. He ran for 127 yards on 24 carries.
Killoy completed 11 of 20 passes for 165 yards.
The Saints are now 2-1 on the season thanks to Rocky Mountain College’s forfeit of the season opener.
Rocky Mountain 21, Dickinson State 10
BILLINGS — Jacob Bakken passed for 249 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Battlin’ Bears won the non-conference tilt at Herb Klindt Fied. (Stats)
Mason Melby ran for 80 yards, and Sam Sparks rumbled for 55 yards and a touchdown.
Hayden Gibson passed for 235 yards and a touchdown for the Blue Hawks.
Southern Oregon 35, College of Idaho 28
ASHLAND, Ore. — Rey Vega rumbled his way for 158 yards and two touchdowns as the No. 4 Raiders improved to 2-0. (Stats)
Vega’s 22-yard scamper with 4:51 left iced the victory.
As a team, the Raiders ran for 265 yards one week before their showdown with Montana Tech.
Dominic Garzoli ran for 109 yards for the Yotes, who fell to 0-3. Darius-James Peterson ran for two TDs and passed for one more.
