Dawgs reach Elite Eight

KANSAS CITY — Montana Western is one of the Elite Eight.

The No. 14  Bulldogs punched their ticket to the quarterfinals of the NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball Championships today, upsetting No. 3 Lee of Tennessee 83-73 at the Municipal Auditorium.

Jordan Overstreet and Kris Castro lead the Western’s balanced attack. Each tossed in 14 points, while Maazin Bulter and Kris Collins both scored 13 points.

Western also got nine points from Tyler Miller, eight points and seven boards from Jake Owsley and six points apiece from Gabe Rucker and Vince Turk. Rucker handed out four assists.

Chase Dunn scored 17 to lead Lee, which saw its season end with a 30-4 record. Duran Blue scored 15, while Jamorris Gaines and Will Barnes each scored 14.

The Bulldogs (24-9) will play No. 6 SAGU (Texas) at 1 p.m. Mountain time on Saturday. SAGU (314) beat Martin Methodist 72-68 Friday morning.
