Dawgs outlast Bears in double OT thriller

DILLON — Reese Neville scored on a 1-yard touchdown run in double overtime Saturday, and Montana Western beat Rocky Mountain College 50-42 in a Frontier Conference thriller at Vigilante Field. (Stats)

The win, coupled with a College of Idaho loss at Carroll College, gives the Bulldogs a share of the Frontier Conference title. Rocky, COI and Western all finished at 7-3.

Western coach Ryan Nourse said the playoff spot is “up in the air” right now.

Jon Jund passed for 328 yards and four touchdowns — three to “Magic Man” Nate Simkins —to lead the Bulldogs to their third straight win. Simkins, who now has three TD receptions on six occasions in his Western career, caught nine passes for 159 yards.

Jamison Hermans caught six for 101 and a score.

Neville ran for 226 yards on 23 carries. Jund also scrambled for 70 yards and two scores as the Bulldogs put up 320 yards on the ground.

Joe Caicedo racked up 12 total tackles to lead the Western defense.

Nathan Dick passed for 194 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for 107 yards. Lucas Overton caught two touchdown passes, while Donavan Sellgre and Carter Garsjo each caught one.
