Dawgs ground Argo women

DILLON — Paige Homes, Brynley Fitzgerald and Shainy Mack led the way for the Montana Western women’s basketball team Saturday night.

The trio combined for 50 points as the Bulldogs beat the University of Providence 66-52 in a Frontier Conference game at the Straugh Gym.

Holmes and Fitzgerald each scored 17 points, while Mack dropped 16 as Western improved to 8-3 overall and 6-3 in league play.

Western outscored the Argos 37-21 in the second half to overcome a 31-29 halftime deficit.

Western also got seven points and six assists from Sydney Sheridan. Lilly Gophoer tossed in five points, and Mesa King and Natali Denning both tossed in two.

Emilee Maldonado scored 14 points to lead four Argos in double figures. Parker Esary added 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Maddy Dixon and Kenedy Cartwright both tossed in 10.

The Argos fell to 3-3 overall and in league play. The teams will play again at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

The men’s games between the two schools were called off because of COVID-19 concerns.
