Dawgs edge Lights for third straight victory

DILLON — Montana Western’s men’s basketball team won its third straight game by the slimmest of margins Saturday night at the Straugh Gymnasium.

The No. 16 Bulldogs overcame a 46-39 halftime deficit to knock off MSU-Northern in a 79-77 Frontier Conference thriller. (Stats)

Zachheus Darko-Kelly’s 17 points led the way for the Bulldogs, who improved to 4-2 in conference and 14-3 overall.

Brandon Jones and Dom Robinson each scored 15 points, while Warren Helligar came off the bench to score eight.

Western used just seven players in the win. Marcus Payne sand Kooper Kidgell each scored eight points, and Troy Scott netted six.

Devin Bray’s 17 points led the Lights, who fell to 3-3 and 13-5. Charles Porter scored 14 points, while Ryan Reeves added 12 points and 10 rebounds. Caulin Bakalarski scored 10 off the bench.

The Bulldogs will look to extend their winning streak next week when they play host to Carroll College and Rocky Mountain College.
