THREE FORKS — Ethan Tatarka scored on an error in the bottom of the 10th inning Wednesday morning as the Dillon Cubs beat the Butte Miners 6-5 in the opener of the Southern A District tournament.
The loss sends the Miners to an 8:30 a.m. Thursday loser-out game against Livingston, which was blown out by Belgrade in Game 2. Dillon, which scored two runs in the ninth to send the game to extra frames, plays Belgrade at 2:30 p.m.
Dillon pitchers Logan Wilson and Christopher Olsen scattered six Butte hits. Tatarka, Corey Renfree, M.J. Simkans and Caleb Peets doubled for the Cubs.
Marcus Madrazo doubled and Nate LeProwse and Zach Hart each hit two singles for the Miners, who fell to 27-25 on the season. Dylan Lanahan and Jared Haran also added singles in the loss.
Butte pitcher Ty Harney went nine strong innings, striking out five.
The Miners beat Livingston (8-37) all three times they played them this season. The top two teams in the double-elimination tournament advance to the Class A state tournament.
