Cross Country out Runs the Rain

Cross Country out Runs the Rain

By Coach Guy Wadas

Butte High competed in its home race Friday and had a tremendous day!  Also having a fantastic day were the middle school teams and the Butte Elementary Schools.

The weather held out just long enough for us to have 6 incredible races ranging from the JV and varsity all the way down to the 240 elementary school runners!

Butte High boys were once again led by Ladd Hutchinson, Camden Houchin, and Ryan Tomich.  Max Dawson, Corwin Hunter, Levi Wiltsie, and Cohen Grunhuvd were also very strong contributors to the varsity team. The varsity girls were led by senior Alex Kovnesky and freshman Lexa Thompson.  Samantha Smith, Octavia Breeton, Arika Dolence, Olivia Thurmond, and Kayleen Noctor rounded out the girls’ varsity squad.

The JV team was led by a contingent of young Bulldog harriers. Caleb Stapley, Lincoln Zell, Ryan Hanson, Blair Hamry, Nathan Stone, and Nathan Hiebert.  Kaleb Grunhuvd his strongest race ever and JJ Hadley had a nice race as he continues to pull double duty for the cross country and soccer teams. Lorna Hunter was the sole representative on the girls side of the JV race.

It was our best race of the season so far. The runners are always excited about our one and only home race and they seem to perform extremely well.  I am hoping to see a continuation of our results over the next few weeks in training and at our upcoming races.  We have seen a group who are elevating their effort in training and it’s paying off.  I love watching the runners execute in races and rise to the next level.  I am hopeful we can keep the momentum rolling through the state meet!

I’d also like to thank all the volunteers, sponsors, the Highland View Golf Course, and my assistant coaches for all their help in making this event spectacular for the runners.
