Country Club ready for Godbout Coca Cola Classic

Country Club ready for Godbout Coca Cola Classic

The rough has been growing tall, the fairways have narrowed, and the greens have been speeding up at the Butte Country Club.

That isn’t just because the Butte course hosted the Montana Cup this week. The Country Club has been getting ready for the 33rd Ron Godbout Coca Cola Classic.

Perhaps the most anticipated tournament in the Mining City will be held Saturday and Sunday. The field of 80 teams — 240 golfers — filled up in a matter of minutes in June. Each team includes an A, B and C player based on handicap.

The tournament features a scramble format.

The Classic is named after its founder, Ron Godbout, the owner of Mile High Beverages who died at 61 following a battle with cancer in August of 2009.

Four teams tied for the title last year. The winning two-day score was 123, which is 17 shots under par.
