Corvallis girls hold off Central for first place

CORVALLIS — Corvallis’ girls’ basketball team jumped out to a big lead and held off Butte Central for a 56-43 Southwestern A victory Saturday afternoon.

The win gives the Blue Devils (8-2, 12-6) the regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in next week’s Southwestern A District tournament at the Maroon Activities Center. The Maroons (6-4, 7-11) will be the No. 2 seed and receive a first-round bye.

Calla Haldorson scored 15 points, while Hannah Martin tossed in 13 to lead the Blue Devils, who built a 33-11 halftime lead. BC battled back in the second half, but the lead was too big.

Tricia Joyce scored 17 of her game-high 20 points to lead the Maroons. Joyce sank four 3-pointers on the game.

Bella Sorini scored seven points for BC, which got six from Sofee Thatcher, five from Delaney Hasquet, three from Maddie Kump and two from Amira Bolton.
