Copperheads take down Maroons in four sets

ANACONDA — The Anaconda Copperheads won a battle of old rivals Thursday night, taking down Butte Central in a four-set non-conference volleyball match.
Anaconda took the first two sets 26-24 and 25-13 before the Maroons won the third set 25-21. The Copperheads closed out the victory with a 25-23 win in the fourth set.

Aubrey Tuss spiked 17 kills to lead the Copperhead attack. Malia Harris and Megan Reich each collected 26 digs.

“It wasn’t our night tonight,” Butte Central coach Becky Hancock said. “We came out flat and tried to fight our way back in, but things just didn’t go our way in the end. Too many unforced errors on our end. Hand it to Anaconda. They played tough.”

Sophia Burton had a big night to lead the Maroons. The junior libero registered 19 digs to go along with six aces.

Cassidy Strizic contributed with eight kills and nine digs, while Maci Reopelle collected 12 digs and handed out 17 assists. Sophie Sullivan also reached double figures with 10 digs. Tess Riordan had eight, and Emma Keeley dug seven.

The Maroons, who fell to 6-2 overall, jump back into Southwestern A pay on Tuesday when they travel to Corvallis. BC, which is 4-1 in conference play, will host the Blocktober Classic on Oct. 19.
