Copper City Kings skate to tournament victory

SALMON, Idaho — The Copper City Kings high school hockey team skated to a tournament victory over the weekend.

The kings knocked off teams from Helena, Idaho Falls and Spokane before knocking downing Sun Valley, Idaho, in the championship game on Sunday.

The Kings travel to Bozeman Wednesday for a 7 p.m. Treasure State League game against the Bozeman Ice Dogs.

Butte 7, Helena Bighorns 0
Seven different Butte players scored goals as the Kings rolled in Friday night’s opener.

Gabe LeProwse, Russell Park, Aidan Francisco, Kody Chamberlin, Robin Bagley, Carsten Quam and Andrew Kober all found the net in the win.

Noah McGee was credited with an assist, and goalkeeper Bryce Stewart turned away all 10 shots on goal.

Butte 9, Bonnecrest 1
McGee, Park and Quam each scored a pair of goals as the Butte team knocked off Bonnechrest, which is from Idaho Falls.

Koy Chamberlin, Samples and Bagley added goals in the win. Carson Barry and Kober each picked up an assists.

Stewart turned away seven shots to pick up the win between the pipes.

Johnny Rifelj scored the lone goal for Bonnecrest.

Butte 9, Spokane 0
Quam and Bagley each registered a hat trick as the Kings rolled in their third game of the tournament.

LeProwse, Barry and Brandon Lyons added goals in the win that saw Stewart deny all 11 shots on goal.

McGee assisted on three goals. Guido Ossello, Logan Miller, Karlie Hedges, Barry, Samples, Park, Lyons, Kober and Francisco also picked up an assist.

Stewart blocked 11 shots for his second shutout of the tournament.

Championship game
Butte 7, Sun Valley 5

Bagley came through with another hat trick in the championship game, and the goals couldn’t have been timelier.

Bagley scored with 2 minutes, 47 seconds left in the second period to tie the game at 5.The then scored two goals in the third to secure the win.

McGee assisted as Bagley put the Kings on top 6-5 with 2:24 left. He added an unassisted goal to finish off the title with 30 seconds left.

Quam, Samples, Chamberlin and Barry also scored goals in the win.

McGee added a pair of assists. Lyons, Barry, Quam and Samples each notched one assist.

Stewart completed the 4-0 weekend run by saving 15 shots.

Ike Buxton scored a pair of goals for the Idaho team. Tiernan Naghsh, D.J. Gralenski and Jett Erikson also scored.
