Concussion wipes out Wilson final

DEER VALLEY, Utah — A concussion relegated Butte freestyle skiing mogulist Bryon Wilson  to 16th place at a World Cup meet held Thursday at the Deer Valley resort located near the United States Ski Team’s base at Park City, Utah.

Wilson., 24,  qualified in fourth place for the finals, but suffered the concussion during a training run fall before the Thursday night finals. As a result, he was placed 16th in the meet’s final rankings. He is 15th in the World Cup stanedings. Wilson missed finishing his run last week in Calgary when he aggravated a knee he injured slightly the week before at Lake Placid, N.Y.

A 2006 Butte High graduate, Wilson was the 2012 Winter Olympics Bronze Medalist in men’s moguls.

His younger brother, Brad, 20, a 2011 Butte Central grad, placed 47th in the Deer Valley meet in the same discipline. Brad Wilson is the reigning World Juniors champion.

Deer Valley winners were Hannah Kearney of the United States in the women’s competition and Mikael Kingsbury of Canada in the men’s.  Bozeman’s Heather McPhie was the women’s competition runner-up as Team USA swept the podium. Elizabeth Outtrim placed third. Patrick Deneen was the highest finishing American man. He placed third

The men’s mougls event drew 71 entries from sll over the world.
