A discussion about sports-related concussions and strategies to reduce their occurrence will be held Monday at 7 p.m. at the Butte High Auditorium.
The public is invited to attend free of charge.
The presentation, dubbed “Concussions and Coaching Strategies,” will feature Dr. Nick DiGiovine, Butte High football coach Arie Grey and Butte High athletic trainer Michelle Gardiner.
The discussion will focus on the long-term impacts of concussions, Montana Sports Medicine’s concussion data and implications, and coaching strategies to prevent concussions.
DiGiovine, the director of the St. James Healthcare Montana Sports Medicine program, says the program implemented in Butte schools has showed dramatic results.
In three years, Butte High’s football team went from 18 concussions in the first year of the program to just five last year when the Bulldogs won the Class AA State championship.
