The Cullan Barry Memorial Sports Concussion and Injury Prevention Fund will sponsor a concussion reduction seminar and certification for coaches, personal trainers, athletic trainers and sports medicine professionals Aug. 9-10 in Butte.
Did you know that concussion rates among high school athletes in the United Stats more than doubled between 2005 and 2012? Did you also know that Montana has the second-highest rate of death from a traumatic brain injury in the nation? The Cullan Barry Memorial Fund aims to help lower those horrifying statistics, and one way of doing that is by insuring athletes are more prepared for high-risk contact sports through training and education.
Dr. Ralph Cornwell, Jr. and Mark Asanovich, MA will come to Butte for the two-day seminar and hands-on training and certification for head neck and core concussion protocol certification.
A presentation will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 9 at the Butte Community Ice Center (1700 Wall St). Aug. 10 will include hands-on instruction as well as written and practical certification exams.
Cost is $375, and that fee must be paid two weeks before the clinic. For more information, contact Chris Barry at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 406-491-4006. Also, visit Dr. Cornwell’s website at www.concussionpreventionprotocol.com.
