Columbia Falls girls make it look easy in opener

By Derek Hendrickson

The Columbia Falls girls won in convincing fashion, 67-39 over the Corvallis Blue Devils Wednesday afternoon in opening round action at the Western A Divisional Tournament at the Butte Civic Center. Stat sheet

The Wildkats played Corvallis earlier this month and only won that game by 8, 53-45 but there was no such drama today as Columbia Falls led by 16 at the half and built their lead to 35 at 65-30 midway through the fourth when both teams cleared their benches.

The Wildkats got big games from both Kiara Burlage and Peyton Kehr, who scored 23 and 15 respectively.  Burlage did all of her damage down low, converting easy layups and drawing fouls as she put Corvallis starting post Genesis Keith in early foul trouble.  Burlage hit 9 of 10 from the line as well.

Corvallis was led by Corine Sanderson who had 15 and was joined in double figures by Call Haldorson who added 11.

Columbia Falls improved to 18-1 on the season and will await the winner of tonight’s final game between the Lady Beavers and Whitefish Lady Bulldogs.  The Wildkats only loss on the season was the hands of unbeaten AA Missoula Sentinel.

Corvallis moves on to loser-out action on Friday afternoon.
