Cold shooting sinks Bulldogs in loss at Capital

HELENA — A frigid night of shooting cost the Butte High girls’ basketball team Thursday night.

Butte High hit on just 8 of 38 shots from the field (21 percent) in a 49-25 Western AA loss to undefeated Helena Capital.

The Bruins scored 38 points on 2-point shots and another 11 from the foul line as they improved to 12-0 overall and 8-0 in conference play.

Dani Bartsch scored 10 of her game-high 12 points in the first half as the Bruins built a 24-13 halftime lead. Capital led 12-0 after the first quarter.

Paige Bartch and Mashayla O’Malley each scored nine points in the win. McKinlee Mihelish scored eight points.

Trisha Ericson connected on 3 of 5 attempts from 3-point land and scored 11 points to lead the Bulldogs (7-7, 4-6). Haley Herron scored four points for the Bulldogs, who got three points form Tylar Clary, two from Grace McGrath, Maddy Rhodes and Ashley Olson, and one from McCaul McCarthy.

The Bulldogs will be at home next Friday and Saturday against Kalispell Flathead and Kalispell Glacier. Those games will be played at the Richardson Gym.
