Bogdan Shleev scored off a Braxton Farmer assist with 7 minutes, 17 seconds left to give the second-year team a win in the opener.
Jacob Rudolf and Josh Smith also scored goals for Butte. Georgy Sokolovskiy added an assist, and Phillip Babb got the win between the pipes for the Cobras.
Butte will play at Seattle against Saturday and Sunday. The Cobras open their home schedule next Friday against the Missoula Maulers.
