Cobras fall in overtime

GREAT FALLS — For the second straight game, the Butte Cobras played into overtime.

This time, however, it did not go Butte’s way.

Connor Doyle scored 4 minutes, 53 seconds into the 5-minute extra frame Friday night, and the Great Falls Americans beat the Cobras 3-2 in an NA3HL Frontier Division game at the Ice Plex. (Stats)

The game went to overtime because Butte’s Hunter Howe scored with 1 minute, 14 seconds left in regulation to knot the game at 2. Nick Bradshaw and Randy Yeakley assisted on the goal.

Henry Chavez and Jay Alford assisted Doyle’s game winner as the first-place Americans improved to 12-1. Daniel Crutcher and Harley Nyhuis also scored for the Americans. Vincent Marroni turned away 28 shots.

Quinn Nichols added a goal for Butte. Tommy Near registered 48 saves.

The Cobras (1-13) will play at Bozeman in a 7:30 p.m. game on Saturday.
