Time ran out on what was nearly a studding comeback for the Butte Cobras comeback Friday night at the Butte Community Ice Center.

The Cobras scored a pair of late goals to make things very interesting in the final seconds. The Yellowstone Quake, though, held on for a 5-4 victory in the NA3HL Frontier Division game. (Stats)

Robby Arver scored off a Ty Stovin assist with 1 minute, 41 seconds left in the game to cut the lead to 5-3. With 44 seconds left, Nick Bradshaw found the net off a Hunter Varney assist.

That was as close as the Cobras could get as time expired.

Yellowstone led 4-2 heading into the third period, and Will Yates extended the lead to three goals with a goal off a Ryan Lovelace assist.

Ryan Rumkpe scored two goals to lead the Quake in the win. Tyler Kramer and Jack Harris joined Yates with one.

Kyler Garsjo and Alec Sorby also scored goals for the Cobras. Stovin assisted two goals, while Bradshaw and Robin Bagley joined Varney with one.

Butte’s Danny Fielding turned away 54 shots between the pipes in the loss.

The Cobras and Quake will play again Saturday night at the Ice Center. The puck drops at 7:30.
