BLAINE, Minn. — A third period goal by Tamer Billman proved to be the difference today as the Butte Cobras knocked off St. Louis Jr. Blues at the NA3HL Showcase. (Stats)
Billman’s goal, which was assisted by Jonathan Schoof, gave the Cobras a 6-4 lead 15 minutes, 28 seconds into the final period.
St. Louis’ Duke Boccardi scored an unassisted goal with 1:55 left, but it wasn’t enough, and the Cobras improved to 1-1 in the tournament.
Nick Bradshaw scored a pair of first period goals to put the Butte club up 2-0. Fabian Vik added a goal early in the second to extend the lead to 3-0.
After Jack Dapron scored two goals for the Blues, Butte’s Zach Turner scored an unassisted goal for a 4-2 lead.
Luke Schleusner extended the lead to 5-2 before Sean Boehm and Michael Kennedy scored to pull the Blues to within 5-4. Then Billman’s insurance goal paid off in a big way.
Dale Pfannenstein saved 30 shots for the Cobras in the win. Cade Wessman assisted on three goals. Jonah Gilbert also registered an assist for the Cobras.
The Cobras play again Wednesday with an 11 a.m. game against the Austin Ice Bats.
