Coaching staffs for the 2013 Southwest Montana All-Star Basketball Classic have been selected.
The event, which is in its fifth year, will be played March 12 at the Montana Tech HPER Complex. The Classic will begin with a girls’ game at 6 p.m., followed by a boys’ game at 7:30.
The top 24 boys and 24 girls in Southwest Montana will be selected to play in the event, which is sponsored by the Butte Chamber of Commerce Hospitality Committee.
To be selected as a coach, individuals must have either played or coached in one of the 15 schools in Southwest Montana. The schools include Anaconda, Butte High, Butte Central, Boulder, Deer Lodge, Dillon, Drummond, Ennis, Harrison, Lima, Phillipsburg, Sheridan, Twin Bridges, West Yellowstone and Whitehall.
The players will be selected next Monday by a committee of area sports writers, radio broadcasters and other media representatives. Area coaches are reminded to have nomination forms returned to the Butte Chamber of Commerce, 1000 George Street, Butte, MT 59701, before March 1.
The coaching staffs for the 2013 game include former Jefferson boys’ coach Dick Norden and his daughter Sara Layng, who coached the Sheridan girls for nine seasons. Former Butte Central boys’ and Anaconda girls’ coach Mark Beckman will also serve as one of the coaches. Beckman is currently Executive Director of the Montana High School Association.
