Cleverley game moved to Naranche

Saturday’s 30th Annual Bob Cleverley Class C All-Star Football Game is on the move again.

The 8-Man football game, which has been played in the Mining City since 1990, will be played at Butte High’s Naranche Stadium.

Ned Ellingwood, the chief engineer at Butte High, Naranche Stadium and Butte High, announced the move today.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. The game will be carried live on KBOW and statewide on the Northern Ag Network.

The game can’t be played at Montana Tech, its home since 1991, because the Orediggers are installing artificial turf. Issues with the construction to the seats at Bulldog Memorial Stadium at East Middle School have forced the game to be moved to Naranche, Ellingwood said.

“We were anticipating this,” Ellingwood said. “We’ll be ready.”

The storied Naranche Stadium was the site of the 2012 Class AA State championship game in November. The renovated stadium reopened for varsity football during the 2011 season, after nearly 40 years of no games.
