Class AA teams come to town for combined tournament

Basketball junkies will certainly be able to get their fix Thursday through Saturday as the Butte Civic Center plays host to the Class AA combined boys’ and girls’ State basketball tournament.

Action begins at 9 p.m. each day with some Saturday-morning loser out games being played at the Richardson Gym at Butte High. Boys’ bracket  Girls’ bracket

All-session passes are $41 for adults and $25 for students. All-day Thursday and Friday passes are $16 and $9, while single-session passes on Saturday morning are $7 and $6. Cost is $9 and $7 for Saturday night’s session, which includes the championship games.

Missoula Hellgate and Billings Skyview are the No. 1 seeds in the boys’ tournament. Hellgate (19-1) won the Western AA crown and will host Great Falls High (14-7), which includes Montana Tech signee Lukas Vining, in Thursday’s 5 p.m. game.

Skyview (17-3) is the Eastern AA champs, and the Falcons, who come to town with recent Montana Tech signee Nolan McHugh, will play Missoula Sentinel (10-11) at 10:30 a.m.

Defending champion Helena Capital (16-5) opens the tournament at 9 a.m. against Bozeman (15-6). The other boys’ game pits Billings West (18-3) vs. Missoula Big Sky (10-11).

Bozeman and Helena Capital are the No. 1 seeds in the girls’ tournament.

The Hawks (15-5) won the Eastern AA and will play Missoula Big Sky (14-7) at 1:30 p.m. The Bruins (18-2) are the Western AA champs and take on Great Falls Russell (9-12) at 8 p.m.

Other games pit defending champion Missoula Sentinel (18-3) vs. Billings Senior (13-8) at noon and Billings West (11-10) vs. Kalispell Glacier (17-4) at 6:30 p.m.
