CORVALLIS — Butte Central’s Kyle Holter and Rileigh McGree chalked up victories as the 2022 prep track & field season opened with the Gene Hughes Invitational. (Results)
Holter, a junior, grabbed a pair of wins to lead BC’s boys, who placed seventh with 20 points.
Hamilton won the boys’ title with 121.5 points. Frenchtown finished second at 92, and Dillon was third at 80.
Holter won the high jump and long jump. He cleared 5 feet 10 inches in the high jump and posted a mark of 19-8 ¾ in the long.
Sophomore Zane Moodry also had a big day for the BC boys, placing in the top 10 in three events. He took seventh in the triple jump at 36-8 and jumped 18-1 ½ for eighth in the long jump. He also tied for 10th in the high jump.
Also for the Maroons, sophomore Jack Keeley placed seventh in the javelin, and junior Riley Gelling took ninth in the discus.
BC freshman Sam Henderson jumped 37-7 ½ to win the junior varsity triple jump.
On the girls’ side, McGree ran to victory in the 100-meter hurdles, one of three events the senior won at the Class A State meet last May. The future Montana Grizzly finished in 17.01 seconds while easing into the season as she recovers from an injury.
Sophomore Ella Moodry placed second in the javelin at 113-0 and fourth in the 100-meter dash in 13.67. BC senior Kinley Hamilton placed fourth in the shot put at 31-4 ½ and 10th in the discus at 87-5.
Dillon’s girls took home the team title with 102 points. Corvallis was second at 92, and Hamilton placed third at 80 1/3. The Maroons finished eighth with 26 points.
Next up for Central is a meet with Missoula Sentinel, Missoula Hellgate and Butte High next Friday in Missoula.
