WHITEFISH — Butte Central’s volleyball season ended today with a five-set heartbreaking loss to Stevensville at the Western A Divisional Tournament.
BC battled back from dropping the first two sets 25-19, 25-21 to take the next two 25-16 and 27-25. The Yellowjackets took the tiebreaker 15-10.
“Today was a tough one to swallow,” BC coach Becky Hancock said. “A game we fought hard to get back in after being down two sets, and then up 8-4 in the fifth to come up short. Got stuck in one rotation that cost us the game. Never like to see it end like that, but these girls never gave up.”
Cassidy Strizic had an impressive match to lead the Maroons. She tallied 14 kills, 18 digs and five aces.
Emma Keeley dished out 31 assists. She also joined Sophia Burton with 17 digs. Avery Kelly, who killed eight and served six aces, dug 13. Kelly also blocked four shots. Allyson Mueller was a force at the net with six kills and four and a half blocks.
The Maroons will not lose a single player to graduation, and Hancock said a loss like today will help the Maroons in the future
“These experiences that sting leave a mark, one I believe will make these girls stronger when next year rolls around,” the coach said. “This is a great team, and even with not losing anyone it still hurts the same and still hard to let go of.”
