POLSON — Butte Central knocked off Polson’s junior varsity team 25-17 and 25-21 to secure fifth place Saturday at the Northwestern A vs. Southwestern A Tip-Off Tournament.
Danee Leary pounded 44 kills to lead the Maroon attack at the two-day tournament. Mariah Cooney killed 33, while Shannon McLaughlin tallied 70 assists. Taylor Marthaller set 30 assists.
Danika Neumann, BC’s libero, collected 52 digs. Also, Cooney smacked 18 blocks and McLaughlin served 26 aces.
” Our Seniors played very well. As a whole we had some ups and downs,” BC coach Kaila Minehan said. “We sSplit with most teams. Consistancey will come with time.”
Minehan said her younger players gained some valuable experience in the tournament.
“We have four freshmen and one sophomore in the mix all receiving playing time, and they still have tons to learn,” Minehand said. “We got better every game and I am pleased with our overall play.”
The Maroons head to the Windy City Tournament in Livingston next weekend. They open Southwestern A play Sept. 6 at home against Dillon.
