Cascade Conference approves University of British Columbia for softball

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Cascade Collegiate Conference Council of President’s approved the associate membership application for the University of British Columbia at their summer meetings the league announced today.

“We are delighted to welcome the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds softball team as associate members into the Cascade Collegiate Conference,” stated Council of President’s Chair Dr. Chris Maples. “UBC is one of the finest academic institutions in the world and will be an excellent addition to our already academically and athletically strong conference.”

UBC will join the CCC in the sport of softball with participation beginning with the 2015-16 season. The Thunderbirds, located in Vancouver, BC, are members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) for the sports of m/w cross country, m/w golf, baseball, softball and m/w track and field. UBC previously competed as a member of the Association of Independent Institutions in those sports and will continue to do so with the exception of softball.

“We are so excited to become a part of the Cascade Collegiate Conference and given the opportunity to compete against some of the best teams in the NAIA”, stated UBC head coach Gord Collings. “We appreciate the confidence that the President’s Council has shown in our program and look forward to a long lasting relationship”.

UBC joins Carroll College, Rocky Mountain College and the University of Great Falls as associate members in the CCC. CC, RMC and UGF were admitted in February and will compete in men’s and women’s soccer and softball (CC, UGF).

“We are very pleased to welcome UBC to the Cascade Conference,” said Commissioner Robert Cashell, a 1984 Butte High graduate. “The Thunderbird softball program has a history of competing against our CCC teams and the addition will continue to add depth to our sport.
