WHITEFISH — Carroll College basketball players swept the Frontier Conference Player of the Week honors, the league announced today.
Hannah Dean took home the women’s award, while Dane Warp was named the men’s top player.
Dean is a 6-foot-1 sophomore forward from Gardiner. No. 7 Carroll went 2-1 for the week including two wins over top-25 opponents. The Saints beat No. 9 (NAIA) Westmont 59-50 and No. 16 (NAIA, D-II) Valley City State 69-58. Carroll lost to NCAA, D-II, MSU-Billings 63-61.
Dean averaged 15 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists. She was 19 of 37 from the field (51 percent) and 7 of 9 (78 percent) from the free throw line.
Montana Tech sophomore Mollie Peoples was nominated for the honor along with Markaela Francis of Rocky Mountain College, Abbie Johnson of Lewis-Clark State and Peyton Kehr of MSU-Northern.
Warp is a 6-4 junior guard from Havre. He helped the Saints stay unbeaten with home wins over Salish Kootenai College 151-72 and Northwest University (Washington) 101-60.
Warp averaged 35.6 points with nine rebounds, nine assists and two steals. He was 30 of 39 (77 percent) from the field including 9 of 14, 3-point field goals.
In the win over Salish Kootenai, his 45 points was a career best and three points shy of the Carroll school record for individual points scored in a game. The Saints did set school team records for points scored, field goals made and shooting percentage.
Montana Tech sophomore Nick Fitts was also nominated. So were Dana Abe of Lewis-Clark State, Justin Dunsmore of MSU-Northern, Kooper Kidgell of Montana Western, Jared Samuelson of Rocky Mountain College and Jalen Shepard of the University of Providence.
