Halftime came at the wrong time for the Orediggers.
Montana Tech closed out the first half with a 17-4 to tie Carroll College at 30 at halftime Saturday night at the P.E. Center.
The second half, though, was a whole other story. Carroll outscored Montana Tech after the break to pull away for an 81-64 victory over the Orediggers in the semifinals of the Frontier Conference men’s basketball playoffs. (Stats)
Match Burnham scored 21 points and pulled down 14 points to lead the No. 9 Saints (25-6). He was one of five Carroll players to reach double figure scoring.
Matt Wyman, who had been out since suffering an injury Feb. 1, returned to the Carroll lineup and scored 16 points. Shamrock Campbell scored 14, while Javon Sljivancanin and Ife Kalejaiye each scored 12.
Taylor England posted another double-double, scoring 15 points and pulling down 10 boards, to lead the Orediggers, who close the season at 17-15.
Nick Fitts scored 13 points in the loss, and Blake Dittman and Carson Dummer each scored 10. The Orediggers also got seven points from Drew Huse, four apiece from Dylan Pannabecker and Derrius Collins, and one from Cody Liles.
Lewis-Clark State beat MSU-Northern 95-53 in the other semifinal game in Lewiston, Idaho. Carroll will host the Warriors in Tuesday’s Frontier Conference championship game.
