Pat Ryan is joining the team at ButteSports.com.
Ryan, a 1986 Butte High graduate, has worked as a sportswriter for the better part of 20 years. He has covered the Butte High football and wrestling teams extensively at The Montana Standard for the past seven seasons.
Ryan will focus on Butte High football during the fall season, starting with Friday’s homecoming game against Billings West at Naranche Stadium.
Before joining The Montana Standard as a copy editor in 1999, Ryan worked as the sports editor at The Helena Independent Record. He got his start as a sports writer as a part-time hand at The Billings Gazette in 1993. After a two-year hiatus from the Standard, Ryan joined the sports department as a full-time writer in August 2006.
Ryan also worked as a sportswriter at newspapers in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and Kellogg, Idaho.
Known around the Mining City as “PR,” Ryan wrestled and played football at Butte High. In 1985, Ryan earned Class AA All-State honors while playing center for coach Jon McElroy’s Bulldogs. He was part of wrestling teams that won the Class AA State title each year he was at Butte High.
At ButteSports.com, Ryan joins former Montana Standard colleagues Bruce Sayler and Bill Foley.
