Butte’s Gransbery, Moreno reach Jug Beck semis

MISSOULA — Butte High wrestlers Keagan Gransbery and Kameron Moreno have reached the semifinals of the Jug Beck Rocky Mountain Classic.

Gransbery is in the final four at 103 pounds, while Moreno made the semis at 205. Both Bulldog wrestlers are ranked No. 1 in the Class AA in their respective weight classes.

Gransbery, who ran his season record to 24-0 with three wins Friday, topped Dre Coles of Great Falls High in a 1-0 thriller in the quarterfinal match. He’ll battle Landen Stewart of Frenchtown when the tournament resumes Saturday morning.

Moreno will take on Zane McCormick of Helena Capita in his semifinal match. Moreno doubled up Austin Ratliff 10-5 in the quarterfinals.

As a team, the Bulldogs sit in fourth place with 92 team points. Mead, Washington, leads the way at 124. Bozeman is second at 110.5, while Great Falls High is third at 100.

Butte High has eight wrestlers heading to Saturday’s action. Wil Queer (at 113 pounds), Carl Anderson (160) and Quinn Sullivan (170) advanced to the quarterfinals before suffering a loss. All three are still battling on the consolation side.

Gavin Vetter (126), Anthony Liva (132) and Kole McGrath (182) are also still alive in the consolation brackets.
