Butte will host Western A but not State A

The Butte Civic Center and Maroon Activities Center will host the Western A Divisional boys’ and girls’ basketball tournaments Feb. 25-27.

Butte Central, the host school, announced the finalization of the tournament this morning.

However, the Mining City will not host the Class A State tournaments, as was scheduled. The Montana High School Association said today that Butte cannot host the tournament because the Butte-Silver Bow Health Department will not allow more than two spectators per player during the pandemic.

So, the State tournaments will be played March 3-6 in Great Falls.

The MHSA also announced that the Class C tournaments have been moved from Bozeman to Lockwood High School. The Class B tournaments will be in Billings, and the Class AA tournaments will take place in Great Falls.

At the Western A tournaments, two spectators will be allowed per participant, with a maximum of 40 per team. Those spectators will only be allowed to attend the games in which their teams are playing

All passes will be sold ahead of time at the participating schools. Fans should contact the activities office at their school for pass availability and sales. No passes will be sold or available at the Butte Civic Center, the Maroon Activities Center or Butte Central High School.

All attendees are required to always wear a face covering and maintain social distancing from others. Failure to adhere to these requirements will lead to immediate removal from the facility.

Fans must exit the facility at the conclusion of each game so staff can sanitize and prepare for the next game. Doors will open 30 minutes before each scheduled game.

All games at the BCC and MAC will be live streamed on the NFHS Network. (Boys bracket; Girls bracket)
