Butte soccer team captures Montana State Cup title

GREAT FALLS — The boys from the Butte Soccer Club claimed the U16/17 Select Silver Division title at the Montana Youth Soccer Association State Cup this weekend.

The Butte players fought through fierce competition from bracket games vs. Livingston and Great Falls to end up in the Championship game vs. Billings. Butte won the championship game 1-0.

“The boys played great everyone gave 100 percent to get this done,” Butte coach Bob McNabb said. “It was truly a team effort.”

Each player was awarded a first-place medal and a championship shirt. The team also took home a championship trophy.

Before the start of the tournament, McNabb was awarded by the MYSA with the honors of being selected Coach of the Year and was presented with a plaque and an MYSA Jacket.

Team members are Justin McNabb, Xavier Black, Shaun Villa, Trevyn Roth, Zach Archibald, Brandon Quinn, Nick Werkmeister, Israel Aquino, Russell Park, Calvin Ball, Logan Johnson, Travis Williams, Oscar Kronenberger, Eric Todd, Erik Rosa, Kyle Rauch and James LaFave.

Bryant Black served as an assistant coach.

The team will take the traditional champions firetruck ride at 6 p.m. Thursday. The champions’ parade will begin at the Butte Civic Center. 2 comments
