Butte runners head to nationals

Four young runners from Butte will be heading to the USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships, which are Dec. 8 in Albuquerque, N.M.

Nic Raiser, Joby Rosenleaf, Connor McGee and Seth Grant qualified for nationals Saturday at the USAFT Montana Association Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships in Bozeman. The top 10 runners in each event move on.

Raiser, who recently finished a stellar freshman cross country season at Butte High, placed third in the 4-kilometer race, finishing in 14 minutes, 46 seconds. Butte Central seventh grader Theron Nelson just missed qualifying, placing 11th in 18:00.

Rosenleaf finished third in the girls’ 4-K in 18:11.

In the boys’ 5K, McGee, a sophomore at Butte Central, placed fifth in 18:47. Grant, a freshman at Butte High, placed 10th in 26:54.
