Butte runners compete at Northwest Regional

BOISE, Idaho — Some of Butte’s best high school cross country runners competed in the Nike Northwest Regional Championships Saturday at the Eagle Island Cross Country Course. (Complete results)

Hailey Nielson led the Butte contingent, which ran under the team name Mining City Harriers. The Butte High sophomore placed 29th out of 462 runners in the girls’ open division. She finished the 5-kilometer course in 19:43.

Other runners from Butte in the division were Aubree Corcoran (20:41), Pieper Joseph (21:45), Kayla Felix (21:55), Gabby Haberman (23:27) and Ida Real (23:34).

Butte High senior Billy Cunneen led the Butte boys. He finished the boys’ open division race in 18:23. He beat Bulldog classmate Zach Carlson by 3 seconds.

Other Butte runners in the division were Sean Foley (19:12), Xavier Black (19:26), Trey Whitlock (20:02) and John Connole (20:03).

Three Butte runners competed in the boys’ Rising Star division. They were Mikey Haldane (19:50( Trent Byington (20:11) and Grant Smith (21:57).
