HOMESTAKE — Butte riders Karli Bjorgum and Will Silk were the overall winners of the 25-milre race Saturday at the 16th Butte 100 Mountain Bike Race.
The race started and finished near Homestake Lake.
Bjorgum, 38, took the women’s title, finishing the Sorini 25 in 3 hours, 2 minutes, 20.46 seconds. Silk, a 16-year-old Butte High student, finished the race in 2:20:39.39 to beat the second-place rider by 17 minutes. (Results)
Silk is a world-class junior speedskater.
Max Kluck of Butte is another world-class competitor in a winter sport. The cross country skier won the 100-mile race a year ago. On Saturday, the 17-year-old Butte High student placed second in the 50-mile race.
Kluck finished in 4:49:04.76. Chad Barentsen, 38, of Castle Rock, Colorado, won with a time of 4:41:10.95.
Christopher Mehlman, 22, of Boston was the overall men’s winner in the 100-mile race. He finished in 8:50:33.13. Butte’s John “Bear” Stillwagon placed eighth overall, crossing in 10:38:52.01.
Missoula’s Ali Bronsdon, 38, won the women’s 11 in 11:51:39.91.
In all, 333 riders competed in the race. Hometowns of riders are not listed in results, however, making it impossible to properly recognize all of the local riders.
