Butte native Axelson takes to ring Friday

Butte native Adam Axelson is stepping up his boxing career.

Friday night, Axelson, 24, will make his professional debut when he takes on Joe Brokenrope of Billings in a 185-pound bout in Kalispell. The four-round fight is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Fairgrounds.

Broken rope is 2-4-1 in his professional career.

The 6-foot-4 Axelson, a former Golden Gloves champ who lives in Missoula, has a long and successful career in amateur boxing. He also went undefeated in six kickboxing bouts and one MMA fight.

At heart, though, Axelson is a boxer.

“His love is just classic boxing,” his father, Jim, said. “There’s just not many amateurs around anymore.”

Adam Axelson, who has not been knocked down in 52 fights, lost to Leo Bercier of Missoula during an Evil Knievel Days bout in July.
